Is it the level of artistry, technical ability and superhuman patience of the image makers, or the wonders of nature, perfection in feathers they’ve caught on camera – which is the more awe-inspiring? I can’t decide. Either way, these pics are stunners.
This is the third year of Nature Photographers Ltd partnering with the British Trust for Ornithology to hold the Bird Photographer of the Year competition. Grateful thanks to them for giving the impetus that prompted these treasures into life.
The pelican. Amazing combination of action and tranquillity. And the colours…. My favourite, Which is yours?

Those photos are phenomenal. The wonderful creatures who share the earth with us deserve to be celebrated. Thank you for posting.
The beautiful pictures arrived on a day that the skies here are grey with smoke from the forest fires, and at dawn the sun looked like a blood-red moon. A few years ago the Earth Liberation Front edited a book titled “Burning Rage of a Dying Planet.” A new major hurricane approaches in the South. Maybe the earth has had enough of us.
The photos remind us of all we could lose if it isn’t too late.

We are reaping what we’ve sown. The tragedy is what the rest of nature is having to suffer because of us:(
